A Letter of Call for Actions: Establishing “Deep Space-Deep Sea-Deep Earth” Southern Collaborative Research Alliance

February 22, 2025, Shenzhen, China

1. Advance “Deep Space-Deep Sea-Deep Earth” Interdisciplinary Research and Collaborative Innovation, Exploring New Research Paradigms and Collaboration Mechanisms

We call for the establishment of the “Deep Space-Deep Sea-Deep Earth Southern Partnerships” alliance and the regular organization of the “Southern Youth Earth Science Conferences” — to provide a platform for sharing scientific research achievements and experiences, and to foster interdisciplinary integration and collaborative innovation across these three fields.

2. Strengthen the Development of Young Talent in “Deep Space-Deep Sea-Deep Earth”, Creating Opportunities for Young Scientists

We call for prioritizing the development of young talent and advocating for the cultivation of a team of young scientists with forward-looking judgment, interdisciplinary literacy, and the leadership to organize large-scale scientific research projects.

3. Establish an AI-Powered Discipline Cluster for “Deep Space-Deep Sea-Deep Earth”, Shaping a New Ecosystem stem of “AI+” in Earth and Space Sciences

We call for integrating resources from universities, research institutions, and industries in the Southern regions to jointly explore the development drivers of “AI + Deep Space-Deep Sea-Deep Earth”, to drive innovation in AI and its application in these three fields, shaping a new future for industries.

4. Promote International Cooperation in “Deep Space-Deep Sea-Deep Earth”, Enhancing the Global Influence of China’s Earth Sciences

We call for actively participating in international programs and collaborative projects related to deep space, deep sea, and deep earth research. These include deep space exploration of the solar system and celestial bodies, deep-sea research through International ocean drilling and the UN Ocean Decade, and deep earth studies under “Future Earth” and the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program. Such efforts will help address major global challenges in Earth sciences.
